King of the Box Office, Top of the Charts
Yes, friends, it’s true. In a non-Dailies related note, I am here to tell you that I have a little side project called “High School Musical 3,”
Perhaps, you’ve heard about it?
Earlier this year, I was hired by a songwriter friend, for whom I’ve done work in the past, to start working on demos for a song for High School Musical 3. We did about 7 revisions (which is typical) and then I got a fun phone call from Disney. “We’d like for you to sing for the character Jason. Jason is one of the Wildcats, one of Troy’s buddies. You can see him at the extreme far right of this picture.
I demanded on screen credit and a percentage of the domestic gross, and had them call my agent. Ok, so actually I tried not to giggle like a 12 year old girl, and said, “Of Course!”
So, we did the sessions last March. I haven’t even seen the movie, or heard the soundtrack, so I have no idea of how much of what I recorded made it to final mix, but my friend Aly called me, swearing that she had heard a snip of me on a segment on NPR. Great. I finally get on NPR and it’s through High School Musical. Figures.
Anyways… the folks at Disney are great, and despite the fact that I’m not in the target demographic, I have enjoyed the HSM series. I did some vocal work on part 2, also. If you take your tweenagers to see the movie, know that there’s a little Dailies Love thrown in there for good measure. I’m somewhere in the mix on the tracks, “Now or Never,” “A Night to Remember,” and “High School Musical.”
Ironically, the song that I originally demoed got cut from the production. It was called, “Last Chance,” and I guess it made it only as part of a medley. I was told my my friend, who is a long time pro at this and takes everything in stride, that it will be included in some future version of the movie… the ultimate box set or something.
Show biz… sigh.

Awesome Chad! I will have to listen more carefully when we get the sound track. We saw the movie at the drive in with a really whiny child so it was a little difficult to hear. Yea for Dailies love!
Sounds trippy!
HSM3 was the best of the bunch…both my kids loved it and we’re sure gonna see it AGAIN!
