New Music — A Sovereign Nation Sleeps Beside Me
Ok… here’s something for ya’ll to listen to.
This is one of the first songs written for the new record, and also one of our favorites. As I mentioned before, this is a demo, and honestly, not a single note will make it to final. It’s just bass / midi drums / and keys right now.
The purpose of these demos (or really any demo) was for us to have a transition between a song that exists on the page, and having to go into a studio with the clock ticking and commit to final tracks.
Hearing it back a few (hundred) times reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the tune, and tells us what we need to change and preserve for the final product.
Again, Erica is not on this track yet. In my last post, I mentioned that she has a full load of voice students and a full load of two young kiddos, so it’s me alone at this moment.
We have decided that on this song, and really any of our songs, we will both be singing in the first person, as a single voice. All of the successful duo groups (Simon and Garfunkel, and Indigo Girls come to mind) sing in this manner, and it feels right to us.
So, we hope you enjoy, and your appetite is whetted, and that you’ll continue to join us as we unfold and explore the creation of our 2nd record. We’ve booked the studio, starting May 4th!

Finally! International diplomacy as metaphor for marriage. Like The War of the Roses, except with negotiation.
And the melody kicks ass, too.
Whoa, sounds great, really. The beat is nice. Also the lyrics.
Yeah. It just makes me excited, kinda like, OHYEAHTHEDAILIESARECOMINGOUTWITHANOTHERCDOHYEAH.
Um…it’s been “buffering” for like 20 minutes…should I be using a different browser or something?
Hmm… Dan, I’d try again.
There were about 5 minutes where I was messing with code, so perhaps you tried to listen in that exact moment. It’s like a serendipity, but the reverse.
[…] The band is about to lay down it’s first pass of A Sovereign Nation Sleeps Beside Me. […]
A “ytipidneres”, Dan…
